SERVICES EXAMINATION
The vision
of a career in the civil services cojures up a vision
of unlimitedauthority, power and prestige. But the reality
is that this career is somewhere between being glamorous
and challenging. Like any other profession it has its
own share of weakness and strengths. But it is true
that at the higher echelons of the services, there is
the potent combination of power and prestige that is
not easily available in other professions.
Powerful, glamorous and the most coveted of the lot
these services attract some of the best brains of the
country. It is this non-political entity - the bureaucracy
that gives permanency to policy-making and its implementation
and also serves as an advisory body to the ministers.
This highly centralized and hierarchical body is in
charge of almost all aspects of administration in the
country. The job involves greater interaction with people,
touring, supervising and non-governmental agencies and
receiving ministers, senior officers etc.
For entry into civil services examination there is a
multi-step examination process.
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION :
There is a screening test or the preliminary examination
,which is conducted as the candidates appearing in this
exam are very large .this exam is conducted in the first
week of june ,every year .
The test consists of 2 papers :
1) OPTIONAL PAPER : 120 questions 2.5marks each
300 marks 2 hrs duration
2)GENERAL
STUDIES:150 questions 1 mark each 150 marks 2 hrs
duration
MAIN
EXAMINATION : Main examination includes written
tests and an interview .
Paper I
:One Indian Language to be selected fr the 18 languages
300 marks (qualifying paper)
Paper II:
English (qualifying paper) 300 marks
Paper III:
Essay 200 marks
Paper IV
& V: General Studies (300 each) 600 marks
Papers
VI & VII : Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) 1200
marks VIII &IX Total Marks 2000 marks Interview Test
300 marks
GRAND
TOTAL 2300 MARKS
